BREAKING UPDATE: Gavin Newsom endorses Kamala Harris for president

UPDATE: California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris after Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 race on Sunday. Newsom had canceled appearances scheduled for Monday shortly after President Biden announced he was exiting the 2024 presidential race, leading to some speculation about him throwing his hat in the ring.

Original story follows:

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) canceled appearances scheduled for Monday shortly after President Biden announced he was exiting the 2024 presidential race. KCRA reporter Ashley Zavala wrote on X that there was "no reason provided by organizers of the event" and that the network was waiting for comment from Newsom's Office.

This comes after President Biden announced his decision to drop out of the 2024 presidential race following requests from Democratic lawmakers and donors after his dismal debate performance against Donald Trump last month.
