Republicans hold a 5-point edge in competitive congressional districts with less than four weeks left until the midterms, a new CNN poll found.

A total of 48% of likely voters said they would support the Republican candidate, while 43% said they would support the Democrat in the "competitive races," according to the CNN poll released Thursday.

Those races are key in determining which major party will control the House. Republicans need to pick up five seats to take control of the lower chamber.

Recent polls have shown the GOP is favored win a majority in the House during the midterms.

Republican voters (52%) hold an advantage compared to Democrat voters (46%) among those who say they are extremely motivated to vote this year, the CNN poll found.
